The FSB issued a press release on 25 August 2017 warning the public against a company, C.Z.Z General Industry (Pty) Ltd, which is posing as a registered Financial Services Provider. In exchange for a fee, the company purports to offer assistance to the public to claim pension surplus benefits as a result of their service with companies in the motor manufacturing industry as well as assist former members of pension funds that are dissatisfied with their pension pay-out.
The FSB reminds the public that the Registrar of Pension Funds’ office provides assistance with tracing unclaimed benefits.
The press release also sets out who can legitimately charge for providing assistance with any unclaimed pension surplus or benefit and also states that Pension and Provident Funds may not charge for assistance provided to members in claiming amounts due to them.
